An Interview with Emily LeVan
This evening I spent a little time on the telephone with Emily LeVan, 1 of 4 Maine women to qualify for the 2008 US Olympic Marathon Trials in Boston.
Before the call, Emily and I collected questions for what you wanted to hear us discuss. Specifically, we discussed how her 4 year old daughter Maddie is dealing with her Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) and what specifically that is, Emily’s running history and how her training has been affected by having to care for Maddie, Emily’s thoughts on the upcoming Olympic Trials and her and Maddie’s fund raiser at Two Trials.org.

I hope that you enjoy the call, and that you please take a moment to visit Emily’s website at TwoTrials.org and consider donating to her and Maddie’s fund raiser. As Emily mentioned on the call, every dollar counts (even the $5 bill that was sent in a card through the mail!) All money donated goes directly to the Maine Children’s Cancer Program to help fund the type of research that has raised the survival rate of children with ALL to better than 85%.

[…] Emily LeVan was the top Maine qualifier, having run extremely well in Boston in 2005 and 2006. She had the 12th fastest qualifying time for any of the competitors who ran. She was also dealt a large emotional blow last November when she discovered that her 4 year old daughter had Leukemia. Emily and her daughter Maddie started the Two Trials website in order to raise money for the Maine Children’s Cancer Program, and they far exceeded their goals to raise a total of over $77,000 to date.
